Start designing your creative career obtaining the skills to create and communicate design concepts with this qualification.

Learn how to evaluate design solutions and to communicate ideas effectively using design terminology and a wide variety of visual presentation techniques, materials and technologies.

During your studies you will gain the skills to create design processes to produce 2D and 3D forms, apply and use colour and produce drawings to communicate ideas.

On completion of this course you will have a great foundation for further study in a range of industries, such as interior design, graphic design, and visual arts.

  • An IELTS score (academic) of 6.0 with no band score less than 5.0 or equivalent.

  • Completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 10.

Tuition fees are reviewed annually. If tuition fees are increased, you will be required to pay the new fees as they are introduced. You will be provided with an indicative schedule of fees in your Letter of Offer.

Resource fees are for consumables you use in your course e.g. paint, internet etc. You pay this fee to your college at enrolment. If your course goes longer than one semester, the resource fee may not need to be paid in one amount but may be spaced out over the duration of your course. Your college will advise you of the payment amount each semester.

Material fees are for items that remain your property after the course has been completed e.g. personal protective equipment, tools, text books etc. You pay this fee to your college at enrolment.

Work placement

There is no work placement requirement for this course. 

To achieve this qualification, students must demonstrate competency in 12 units. These 12 are comprised of 7 core units and 5 elective units. Elective units listed below have been selected in consultation with industry.

Students who enrol into this qualification will be eligible for credit transfer of the units that they have already achieved. Fees paid by international students are set on a commercial basis and are paid as a whole of course fee - no refund will apply to credit transfers. Please refer to your letter of Offer for detailed duration and costings for your enrolment.

Assessment methods

The methods of assessment used in this course include gathering evidence that reflect entry level points in the design industry and emphasise the application of knowledge and skills to a broad range of design applications. Training and assessments allow for projects and planning activities to replicate authentic holistic tasks that may be performed in the relevant workplace. Knowledge and skills are also assessed holistically during the practical project work required of the students. Evidence of skills are also gathered in the form of observed performance, project outcomes and portfolio documents and knowledge will be tested through questioning both orally during presentations and in the writing of briefs, reports and business documents.

These assessment strategies and evidence gathering are in accordance with the relevant training package or accreditation guidelines. Detailed Information is available in the assessment matrix, learning plans and assessment tools for each of the units of competency. Assessors use the matrix to ensure assessments, are undertaken across the duration of the course, rather than clustered together at particular times.

Learning resources, facilities and equipment

The following learning resources, facilities and equipment are available at each campus so that you can achieve the skill and knowledge requirements of this course.

 

Learning resources may include access to learning plans, assessment tools, class notes, PowerPoint presentations and YouTube tutorials and a starter kit of basic art and design media is supplied to all students.

Facilities and equipment may include access to a design studio with display screens, presentation boards, Wi-Fi, Av screens, drafting tables, lecture theatres with AV technology and computer labs with both PC and MAC internet browsers.
