About TAFE International Western Australia

TAFE International Western Australia (TIWA) is the unit within the Western Australian (WA) Department of Training and Workforce Development responsible for the recruitment and admission of international students studying at WA TAFE colleges and Government schools.

TAFE

TIWA is the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) provider, for the delivery of training to international students, enrolled in a TAFE course in Western Australia. Nationally recognised courses are delivered by Western Australian TAFE colleges on TIWA's behalf:

  • North Metropolitan TAFE
  • South Metropolitan TAFE
  • Central Regional TAFE
  • North Regional TAFE
  • South Regional TAFE

TIWA retains responsibility for the quality of the training and assessment delivered by the TAFE colleges and for the issue of certification documentation to students. TIWA is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) regulated by the Australian Government’s Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)(opens in a new tab)

TIWA also manages the placement of international students into WA Government schools, in line with the Department of

ESOS Framework

TIWA and the TAFE colleges deliver this training and associated services to international students, in line with the requirements of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS)(opens in a new tab) and the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018(opens in a new tab).

Recruitment and admission of international students

Delivery of training to international students

After an international student has applied to TIWA and been accepted into a course of study, their course is delivered either:

  • by their nominated TAFE college – this TAFE college will also issue the student with the Award on the successful completion of their course, on TIWA’s behalf; or
  • by their nominated Government school.

Courses delivered to TAFE students in Australia are nationally accredited according to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)(opens in a new tab), are competency based and are taken from an industry approved training package(opens in a new tab).
