Taiwan to TIWA: Jackson's Hospitality Dream

Jackson I-Kuan Chen was born in Taiwan and he holds an impressive background in hospitality.  Previously, back in his home country,  Jackson worked in various hospitality roles. He decided to continue his development in his career by studying SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management at TIWA. As he approaches graduation, he reflects on his experience at TIWA and how he has found the facilities.

What were you doing before moving to Perth as an international student?

Before I came to Perth, I worked as a restaurant sommelier, manager and beverage trainer. During the COVID period, I also worked as a real estate agent.

What course are you studying, and at which TAFE campus?

I am currently studying the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management at Bentley campus. The best part of the course is that the lecturers at TAFE are all very experienced.

How have you found the facilities on your campus?

For me, each instructor has a different teaching style which makes the kitchen classes more interesting.

What career path are you planning to pursue after completing your studies at TIWA?

I will continue to be a chef and integrate the wine knowledge I have learned. Food and wine pairing is very important in today's high-end catering industry. If I can put what I have learnt into practice, it will be of great benefit to my future development.

How long you have been living in Perth?

I have been in Perth for almost three years. The people here are very friendly, which is one of the things that has impressed me the most.

Would you recommend TIWA to family and friends?

I recommend TAFE because it offers good lecturers and a comprehensive education system.
