My name is Reena Varsani, and I’m originally from Nairobi, Kenya. Before moving to Perth, I was living in London, UK, where I studied a foundation certificate in business, law, and social sciences. I’ve always been passionate about helping people, and I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to make a meaningful impact in the community. Moving to Perth to study community services felt like the right next step in my journey — one that would help me grow personally and professionally in a supportive and diverse environment.
What course are you studying, and at which TAFE campus?
I have completed the CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services at Leederville campus and am currently enrolled in the CHC42021 Certificate IV in Community Services with plans to continue into the diploma next term. One of the best things about the course is how practical and hands-on it is. We don’t just sit in classrooms — we work through real-life scenarios, engage in meaningful discussions, and prepare for the kinds of challenges we’ll face in the workplace. It’s a course that truly builds confidence and capability.
How have you found the facilities on your campus so far?
The Leederville campus has fantastic facilities with everything I need to succeed in my studies. It’s modern, accessible, and designed for real learning. My lecturers have been incredibly supportive and approachable. They take the time to explain concepts clearly and always relate the content to practical, real-world applications. I especially enjoy their interactive teaching style, which keeps learning engaging and meaningful.
What career path are you planning to pursue after completing your studies at TAFE?
After completing my studies at TAFE, I plan to pursue a career in counselling. Through my course, I’ve developed a strong interest in supporting people through life’s challenges and helping them improve their mental and emotional well-being. Counselling feels like a natural fit for me because it allows me to build genuine connections with people and make a positive difference in their lives. I’m looking forward to continuing my education and training in this field so I can work in community organisations or mental health services.
What are the best things about Perth as an international student?
I’ve been living in Perth for almost a year, and it has truly become a second home. It’s a beautiful city — safe, multicultural, and full of opportunities for international students. The lifestyle here is relaxed, and the people are welcoming and kind. I love the balance between city life and nature.
Do you have any advice for students who are considering studying a course similar to yours at TAFE?
To any future students considering studying at TAFE: go for it! The courses are well-structured, the support is excellent, and you’ll gain skills that employers are looking for. I would absolutely recommend TAFE to my friends and family. It’s a great choice because it combines quality education with a real-world approach to learning.
