Cao Minh Hieu Nguyen, originally from Hanoi, Vietnam has stepped out of his comfort zone to pursue his passion to become a chef. This is his journey.
What were you doing before moving to Perth?
My name is Hieu, I’m 20 years old and come from Hanoi, Vietnam. I am a cheerful and positive person.
I came to Perth as an international student after graduating from high school. Honestly, it was quite a risky decision for me because studying abroad was the first time I got out of my comfort zone to leave my hometown to go all the way to a strange and distant country like Australia, and in particular to Perth city.
What course are you studying, and at which TAFE campus? What are the best things about your course?
I have been studying the SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management at Bentley campus. I really enjoyed the course and have a very good impression here because of the facilities, teaching conditions, and especially the friendliness and thoughtfulness of the lecturers, staff and students.
What career path are you planning to pursue after completing your studies at TAFE?
Because I am studying to become a chef, after completing the course I will continue to develop my skills and follow the path of becoming a good chef contributing to the world's cuisine.
What are the best things about Perth as an international student?
I have lived in Perth for almost two years now. After studying in Perth for a while, I feel that I made the right decision because I have experienced many interesting and useful things during my time overseas. It has also improved my independent lifestyle and way I think.
Do you have any advice for students who are considering studying a course similar to yours at TAFE?
Well, everyone has their own interests and strengths in their individual fields so the choices will be varied however I believe that TAFE is the place every student should consider studying at because it is one of the leading vocational schools in Australia!
