Completion of CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent) is required for entry into this course.

Students are required to undertake a minimum of 280 hours of supervised work placement in a registered early childhood education and care service. The work placement hours may vary depending on the specific units selected and individual unit requirements. This work placement helps to strengthen the skills and knowledge you have learnt during your studies in a real workplace environment. You will be fully supervised during your placement by staff at the facility and your supervision and support requirements will be fully documented. A designated lecturer from SR TAFE will visit you during the work placement to observe and will provide written and verbal feedback. You are required to have a Working with Children Check card (over 18’s) prior to undertaking mandatory work placement. In addition, this course requires immunisations and/or proof of vaccination status before attending mandatory work placement. You may also be required to have First Aid and CPR certification, federal police clearance, NDIS clearance and medical clearance, depending on the requirements of the work placement provider. You are also required to complete national child safety training prior to undertaking mandatory work placement and this will be outlined by your lecturers at orientation and during your studies.

Workplace activities that contribute to the outcomes of the course will be documented in either a hard copy or electronic logbook.
You are required to have a Working with Children Check card (over 18’s) prior to undertaking mandatory work placement. In addition, this course requires immunisations and/or proof of vaccination status before attending mandatory work placement. This work placement helps to strengthen the skills and knowledge you have learnt during your studies in a real workplace environment.
College lecturers will organise, prepare and support you for your placement, and monitor your progress in consultation with workplace supervisors. You will be fully supervised during your placement by staff at the facility and your supervision and support requirements will be fully documented. During this work placement, you will complete a range of learning and assessment tasks that are aligned to course outcomes. The workplace will provide supervision, guidance, and feedback to you on the performance of these tasks. Workplace activities that contribute to the outcomes of the course will be documented in either a hard copy or electronic logbook.
You are required to have a Working with Children Check card (over 18’s) prior to undertaking mandatory work placement. In addition, this course requires immunisations and/or proof of vaccination status before attending mandatory work placement. You may also be required to have First Aid and CPR certification, federal police clearance, NDIS clearance and medical clearance, depending on the requirements of the work placement provider. You are also required to complete national child safety training prior to undertaking work placement and this will be outlined by your lecturers at orientation and during your studies.
As part of this course, you will also participate in approximately 40 hours of work experience at the on-campus commercial crèche.
2 semesters
To achieve this qualification, students must demonstrate competency in 15 units. These 15 are comprised of 12 core units and 3 elective units. Elective units listed below have been selected in consultation with industry.

The methods of assessment used in this course include written questions, oral questions, direct observation including practical activities and role-plays and assignments such as projects and evidence portfolios and work placement. These methods will include specific tasks that will be set for the students to complete. These may involve practice and assessment skills that relate directly to the units of competency. While in the workplace students will have specific workplace assessment tasks to complete outlining how specific skills have been performed. Work placement and on-campus work experience are important components of the course which will enable students to gain hands-on experience with babies and children under the supervision of lecturers and qualified educators in services.
These assessment strategies and evidence gathering are in accordance with the relevant training package or accreditation guidelines.
