Big dreams, little learners: Solongo’s Early Childhood adventure

My name is Solongo and I'm from Mongolia. Before moving to Perth, I lived in Mongolia where I completed my university degree in Psychology. After graduating, I set a goal to continue my journey in Australia. I started preparing for my IELTS exam and, during that time, I worked as a sales manager at a construction sales company. It was a busy but exciting time in my life—I was working full-time while planning for a completely new future. After about a year of preparation, my student visa was approved. That was such a proud moment for me, and now here I am, living in Perth and building the life I had only dreamed of before.

What course are you studying, and at which TAFE campus?

I’m currently studying the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at Leederville campus. What I love most about this course is working with children during our placements—it’s such a rewarding and meaningful experience. We also learn so much from our teachers, who are not just knowledgeable but also passionate about what they do. My childhood dream has always been to work in a school as a psychologist, and this course is helping me build that foundation. Being in a space filled with children gives me such good energy—I truly feel happy and fulfilled. Every day in this course brings me closer to the future I want.

How have you found the facilities on your campus so far?

When I first started this course, I had no experience working with children. I was honestly confused and had many questions. But from the very beginning, my lecturers supported me. They helped me build my knowledge step-by-step in a professional and friendly way. What makes their teaching so special is that they use real-life examples and case studies. For us international students, especially when English is our second or even third language—that makes a huge difference. It helps us fully understand the lessons and apply them confidently.

The campus itself is also very well-equipped, and TAFE offers us work placements and even a crèche. These opportunities gave me real-world experience and helped open my eyes to how much I enjoy working with children. It’s been so useful and inspiring.

What career path are you planning to pursue after completing your studies at TAFE?

I still love psychology and always will. After I finish my course, I’m planning to continue my studies—maybe pursue a master’s degree in child psychology or become a play therapist. Combining my background in psychology with my experience in early childhood education makes so much sense to me. I’d love to work with children in a way that supports their emotional well-being, helping them grow through play, connection, and care.

How long you have been living in Perth?

I’ve been living in Perth for almost three years now—wow, time really flies! One of the best things about Perth is how multicultural it is. People from all around the world live here, and that makes me feel less alone. It’s a place where I’ve never felt judged or discriminated against. Perth is also bigger and more peaceful compared to other cities in Australia, and the nature here is beautiful. In summer, I love going to the beach to swim, eat good food, and watch the sunset. Honestly, Perth has the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. It’s moments like those that make me feel grateful to be here.

Do you have any advice for students who are considering studying a course like yours at TAFE?

If you’re thinking about studying a course like mine at TAFE, my biggest advice is to make sure that it’s what you really want. Ask yourself if you love working with children—not just when they’re cute and happy, but even when they act out or test your patience. If your answer is yes, then this course will be one of the best choices you make. I would absolutely recommend TAFE to my friends and family. The teachers are amazing, their knowledge is strong, and the practical training through work placements helps you build real skills and confidence.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Yes! I want to tell future students to be honest with themselves when choosing a course. Don’t just follow others—go out, visit real workplaces, talk to professionals, and picture yourself doing that job every day. Can you see yourself happy and motivated in that field? If yes, then go for it. Choosing the right course can shape your future in ways you never imagined
